Who we are

At From Roots2Harvest, we believe everyone deserves access to fresh, nutrient-packed vegetables that tell the story of Southern agriculture. Founded by Dr. Amanda Clark in Birmingham, Alabama, we're more than just a farm – we're your partners in food security and sustainable living.

Our mission is simple: combat food deserts and food swamps through heritage variety vegetables, education, and community connection. Whether you're signing up for our weekly CSA boxes filled with rare Southern varieties, joining our hands-on workshops, or having us help you start a complete growing system in your backyard, you're part of a movement that is cultivating healthy, vibrant communities.

What makes us different? We focus on quality over quantity – growing heritage crops exceptionally well, right in our city or region. You'll get substantial portions of vegetables with stories, plus the knowledge to use every bit.

🌱 Dr. Amanda D. Clark founded From Roots2Harvest after years in academic research and community education, driven by a mission to restore connections between people and the food that nourishes them.

As the granddaughter of a prominent Alabama farmer, Amanda combines inherited agricultural wisdom with cutting-edge scientific training.

Amanda earned her PhD in Biology from Auburn University in 2022, specializing in biological systems and genomics. Her academic background uniquely positions her to optimize crop performance while maintaining the genetic diversity that makes heritage varieties special. With over 10 years of educational outreach experience, including her role as Education Director for Fresh Air Family, Amanda has taught thousands of Alabama children about biodiversity and Southern agricultural practices.

Meet Our Board

🫚 Jacob "Nehemiah" Lott is our Chief Agricultural Officer, a Certified Master Gardener, a member of the Georgia Native Plant Society, and co-founder of From Roots2Harvest. He views horticulture as a ministry, believing that planting a seed in fertile soil transforms it into an abundant harvest and enables self-sufficiency, nutrition, and education.

Born and raised in Lowndes County, Georgia, Jacob comes from a lineage of farmers—his grandfather and great-uncle worked the land in neighboring Coffee County. Growing up amid South Georgia's agricultural traditions, he developed an early passion for cultivation that evolved into a life’s mission: making fresh, quality food accessible to all. Through From Roots2Harvest, Jacob strives to reconnect people with their heritage and the soil that sustains them.
